Flicka's FAQs!
Q: Can I visit the sanctuary?
A: Yes, visitors are welcome during our sanctuary open hours.
Q: What are your opening times?
A: Please visit this page for information on opening times.
Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Yes, we love all animals at Flicka! Your dog is welcome to wander around the sanctuary with you, but must be on a lead.
Please do not leave your dog in your car at any time.
Q: How many donkeys do you have?
A: At present, we care for over 70 donkeys and around 30 horses and ponies – all rescued from situations of abuse, neglect and abandonment.
Q: Can I fuss the donkeys?
A: Yes! Lots of them absolutely love the attention and will come over to greet you, but please understand that some of our rescued animals are more nervous, due to the trauma they have suffered, and might prefer to hang back slightly.
Q: Can I feed the donkeys and horses?
A: Unfortunately we cannot allow visitors to feed the donkeys - for their safely and yours. Many of our animals require special diets and the wrong food could make them very ill, so visitors are not permitted to feed them. They can also deliver a very nasty bite! If you would like to bring a donation of food however, we would be very grateful - please drop it off at our office or feed room during your visit.
Q: Do you have any baby donkeys?
A: As we are a sanctuary, we do not condone breeding, but do often get called upon rescue young donkeys and foals, like Hamish, Darcey and Clover. We also have a number of donkeys arrive with us in foal, so have had a number of babies born here over the years - our newest arrival was baby Archie!
Q: Is your site accessible for wheelchairs and visitors with limited mobility?
A: We have parking spaces close to the sanctuary entrance and access to all areas of the site is possible for visitors with limited mobility. Our walkways are concreted, we have access ramps into our tearoom and gift shop and disabled toilet facilities are situated next to our tea room. Please ask if you need any assistance.
