Sophia and Archie
Sophia arrived with us in June 2019 having been on our radar for a while. At around 18 years old she has had a very hard life, kept in foal constantly to fuel the meat markets and about to face the horror of live transport onto the continent.
Sophia arrived underweight, with a bacterial skin infection and swollen fetlocks. She was heavily pregnant, and no doubt she has been so many times before, having her foals cruelly taken from her. This time will be different though, Sophia and her new foal will be able to live out their lives together in the safety and loving care of our sanctuary.
When Sophia first arrived she was tired and depressed, but has quickly brightened under our care. She is beautiful, has big kind eyes and an even bigger kind heart. She is so friendly, and goodness only knows why, but seems to love people, and being fussed and cuddled.
In the early hours of Saturday 13th July, Sophia gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, a very large baby boy! After a competition with our supporters he was named ‘Archie’. What a sweetheart!
