Support Adoption For Pets Helps Rescued Donkeys!
The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary was delighted recently when Support Adoption For Pets, an independent charity established by Pets at Home, awarded a substantial grant for the purchase of a new tractor and paddock sweeper to keep their residents happy and healthy.
The Penryn-based equine sanctuary reports rescuing an unprecedented number of donkeys and ponies over the past two years – new arrivals are cared for and rehabilitated by an expert team at the sanctuary, before being introduced to the existing residents and the freedom of the paddocks. The charity says it is vital that the paddocks are kept clear of waste and debris to ensure a healthy environment for the welfare of the animals, but they found themselves struggling when their very old tractor and sweeper became unreliable and needed replacing.
Following an urgent application for new equipment, Flicka’s team were thrilled when Support Adoption For Pets stepped in to help. All of the sanctuary’s funding goes towards caring for animals rescued from conditions of abuse and neglect, so support via grant funding is much appreciated and really does make a big difference to the charity’s work.
Support Adoption For Pets is the number one financial supporter of pet rescue centres in the UK, working alongside Pets At Home to donate over £2 million and support over 1000 pet rescue organisations annually. It offers funding support to pet rehoming charities through a Grant Programme and believes that every homeless pet deserves a second chance at happiness.
Flicka Foundation Trustee Director, Judy Giles, said: “We were delighted when we received the news that our application had been successful! The tractor and paddock sweeper are vital pieces of equipment in maintaining the paddocks for the health and well-being of our donkeys and horses and we are so grateful and relieved that we will now be able to replace our old broken ones. A big thank you to Support Adoption For Pets for their fantastic, ongoing support!”
Nichola Griffiths, Support Adoption For Pets Grant Coordinator said: “The Flicka Foundation does fantastic work re-homing and providing permanent care for such a large number of donkeys and horses. It is a privilege to support them in continuing this work by replacing their old tractor and paddock sweeper”
