Fun Dog Show & Open Day Saturday 7th September
Despite a very poor weather forecast, Saturday's weather could not have been better, sunshine all day. We had a wonderful turnout from dogs and people, the day brought an amazing total of £1900.00 towards Flicka's winter hay and haylage. Enormous thanks to everyone who contributed cakes, raffle prizes, tombola prizes and their time, and to everyone who came along to give their support. It was hugely successful. Thanks also goes to Radio Cornwall (Pam Spriggs who came along and interviewed us) and the West Briton newspaper for their features about the Flicka Foundation. Congratulations to 'Ollie' and his owners Steve & Ali Beck for winning Best in Show.
Special thanks to Nigel & Katie who came along from Sainsbury's Falmouth (who Flicka is partnered with this year) to present some of the dog show awards. More thanks to Donna Watson, Kerry Taylor, Val & Mike Carpenter, Jill Johnson, Vanessa Clarke, Emma Turley, Hazel Cooper, Judith, Alison and Sarah our excellent dog show judge. This list is incomplete and we need to source some more names and surnames, if we have missed you, sincere apologies, but special thanks to all of you!!

The Arrival of Two Very Poor and Frightened Donkeys.
These two donkeys were in a very bad way when they arrived here, unfortunately there are still some in the situation they came from. These two are doing so well, with daily bonding from one of our girls, Lucy Forbes, they are now very trusting, inquisitive and almost friendly although still quite wary. We call them 'Lucy's Girls'.........we will keep you posted.

Jasper and Merlin Visit a Care Home in Newquay
Jasper and Merlin were the star attraction for the residents of Kimberley Park Care Home in Newquay on Wednesday 5th June! It was a very hot sunny day when Laurie, Judy & Val took the boys in the Flicka lorry to go and say hello to the ladies and gentlemen at Kimberley Park. Thank you to Lorraine Young the hospitality manager for inviting us to be part of their 'Donkey Week'.

The Fun Run & Open Day Sunday 2nd June
We were lucky with a dry, sunny day for our runners and visitors to the centre, another very successful day which brought the charity nearly £600! Thank you to the runners (including the donkeys who started their own fun run as you can see below)!! and everyone who came along for a cream tea and home made cakes, thank you for supporting our day. Delicious cakes were made by Val Carpenter, Shelly, Wendy and Jessica, invaluable help as usual from Donna Watson, Kerry Taylor, Hazel Cooper, Emma Turley, Vanessa Clarke, Jill Johnson. We had a lot of help so we are sorry if we have missed you, always very grateful for everyone's input - this is what keeps 'Flicka' alive!
Great News.......Applejack & Oscar Saved!!!!
25.5.13 - Applejack and Oscar have been saved and arrived here at 'Flicka' - they were a little thin, subdued and rather dirty, apart from that they were not too bad physically. We have since had their feet seen to, wormed them and they have lovely haylage and feed each day. We are also waiting for Gill our equine dentist to check their teeth. They are lovely friendly boys and are settling in very well. We also have their saddles, they are appalling with bare metal sticking out on the underside, we decided to keep them to show visitors what some of these poor, unregulated and unlicensed, beach donkeys have to endure.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to ensure we could keep these two together and bring them to safety. Applejack and Oscar, we are sure, would like to thank you themselves - a huge THANK YOU!! We will keep you updated with their progress.

Urgent Appeal - 27.4.13
We Need Your Help for Applejack and Oscar
Applejack and Oscar are two very quiet, unassuming donkeys, they have been together all their lives as 'beach donkeys' and devoted to each other - now, no longer needed or wanted they have ended up in the hands of an unscrupulous dealer. Not only is their fate going to be the horror of the awful livestock markets, but they are to be separated and sent to two different markets to 'maximise profit' - where they will undoubtedly be loaded up for the continent.
We have until the end of May to stop this - an operation like this is very expensive if we are able to do something, there are no guarantees it will be successful, but we have to try, we already have a five star home lined up for them if we can just get them to safety.
Please, please will you help?
We will keep you updated on this page.

Dolly Arrives - 9.4.13
Dolly arrives on Tuesday evening after a gruelling journey of just under 400 miles from North Wales. Laurie lets her find her own way out of the lorry, stretches her legs in the car park and has a look around.
Dolly is an aged lady, probably in her late twenties, she does have a some arthritis in her back legs, and requires urgent dental treatment, she is a lucky girl having been removed from her circumstances by Sarah, and then cared for by Joanne, two ladies in Wales.
Once in her new stable she tucked into some haylage (as much as she could with teeth problems) and then gazed at Peter pony next door! Huge thanks to Emma Boyce and Diane Lindsay, two volunteers who made the arduous journey there and back in the Flicka lorry. As you can see Dolly is emaciated, her thick coat, that has been coming out in handfuls, hid how thin she was. It will take months of rehabilitation to get her back to health, because of this, her grand age, skin problems and other health issues she will not be fostered out, but remain here at Flicka for her twilight years.

Dolly 4.4.13
Sarah took the dear little Dolly for a walk after finding her in a back yard, her bloated tummy is worm infestation and she is very
thin.
The Flicka Foundation has had a call from Sarah who does dog rescue work in North Wales. During the course of her work she came across a poor little pony (11.2hh) tied up in a back yard on a housing estate, no food, no shelter and the owner telling Sarah to get rid of her or ‘she will be shot where she stands’. ‘Dolly’ is an aged pony (20 plus) very thin and needs veterinary attention as a matter of urgency.
Elderly ponies deprived of shelter and feed go down hill rapidly, Sarah can find no-one to help locally so we have a space here for her. Will you assist us with the cost of getting Dolly to safety and perhaps once rehabilitated she may be fostered out to a forever home.

Cream Tea and Open Day Saturday 30th March
Flicka's Open Day was a huge success, unbelievably the day before was torrential rain and high winds, we were resigned to the fact the day was going to be a non starter. Amazingly we had wall to wall sunshine, an unexpected beautiful day!! The above pictures were at the beginning, it got busier and busier - as a result a fantastic £1063.49 was raised from cream teas, the tombola, a raffle, drawing competition, taster pony rides
and donations!!
Thank you to everyone who came along supported our day and sampled Val's delicious cakes. These days just wouldn't happen without the dedication and kindness of the volunteers, Val & Mike Carpenter, Donna Watson, Kerry Taylor, Emma Turley, Jill Johnson, Natalie Stevenson, Heather Fehrenbeck (who stepped in when Val & Donna were overwhelmed with the queues for tea and cake)! Thank you, as ever, to all the young people who got stuck in showing people around and looking after the horses and donkeys. A truly great day......thank you.......xx
