Hermione & Doris
Dear Doris and her friend Hermione were travelled 300 miles for sanctuary here at Flicka. Both girls were emaciated and very frightened, especially Doris, the smaller of the two. Their coats were long, matted and very dirty, we had to take most of it off and underneath it harboured lice and rain scald.
Hermione was very ill when she arrived and required an emergency vet visit, for a few days we really feared for her survival; she had a high temperature and laboured breathing - we kept a vigil round the clock. Doris had the same lung infection although not as severe as poor Hermione. Over the following weeks, thank goodness, they both got better.
It took around five months for them to begin to trust us; Doris took considerably longer and hid behind her friend all the time.
Happily, they are now two delightful, cheeky, affectionate girls with lots of character; it just shows how their true personality was suppressed with fear and illness.
We are privileged to have them here at the sanctuary and love them to bits!
