Pearl & Freddie
Freddie and Pearl are Mum and son from Ireland, brought to the UK en-route to the continent for meat.
Pearl is the mother of Freddie, we are so lucky to have found her. We didn't realise, when a group of poor donkeys arrived, that Freddie’s Mum was not amongst them. He was very agitated, not interested in any food we offered him and kept going to the door of the barn looking for ‘something’. All day and all through the night the poor little chap cried, it wasn’t until we saw him trying to suckle from Tabitha, another rescue donkey who arrived at the same time, that we realised she was not his mum. How distressing for Freddie and for us to witness his misery.
We could not accept this heart breaking predicament, we had to do something to find his Mum… and we did (long story)! His Mum arrived, utterly emaciated, but Freddie was overjoyed, as was his Pearl, and all of us! Ever since they have not been apart and are devoted to each other. Thank goodness, a happy ending...
Freddie is much bigger than his Mum now, but they are always together!
