Donkey sanctuary calls for volunteers
We are holding a Volunteer Recruitment Day at our donkey sanctuary near Penryn, as we appeal for volunteers. As the busy summer season approaches more volunteers are needed to help support the charity in various roles.

A registered charity, The Flicka Foundation rescues and cares for abandoned, neglected and mistreated donkeys. As we welcome more and more visitors in the spring and summer seasons we are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to help regularly in a variety visitor facing and animal care roles.
About the volunteer roles:
Friendly, reliable and confident volunteers are needed to help at the sanctuary during public opening times - Tuesday to Thursday plus weekends and Bank Holidays, including during school holidays. Ideally suited for those aged 16 and over who are great with people and are passionate about animal welfare.
Volunteer Tea Room Assistants
When: Various times between 11am and 4pm
What: Preparing and serving drinks, snacks and light refreshments to visitors. Clearing and washing crockery and utensils. Taking payments.
Who: You’ll be friendly and confident with great customer service skills.
Volunteer Meet and Greeters
When: Various times between 11am and 4pm
What: Welcoming visitors. Providing information and directions around the Sanctuary. Serving in the gift shop. Taking payments.
Who: You’ll be friendly and confident, the welcoming face of The Flicka Foundation.
Volunteer Yard Assistants
When: Opportunities from 9am, various all days throughout the week.
What: Keeping all areas clean and tidy. Mucking out stables and donkey barns. Muck clearing in the fields. Putting out hay and haylage.
Who: You’ll be fit to carry out manual labour ideally with an interest in, or experience of, equine/animal care.

The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary (Charity reg. No. 1153858) was founded by Mary Berryman in 1995, following the rescue of an elderly pony named Mickey. Mary loved all animals with a passion and could not bear animal suffering. Now approaching its 25th anniversary, the charity has rescued and rehabilitated well over 700 animals since its inception. Members of the public are welcome to visit the donkeys all year round.
